Sculptra

Sculptra is an injectable of the liquid poly-L-lactic acid—a synthetic form of lactic acid. Lactic acid is produced naturally in our bodies after exercise and is directed to our muscles when they’re low on oxygen because of strenuous activity. When the synthetic form is injected into areas of the skin, it acts as a powerful collagen stimulant.

Collagen is the most abundant protein in the human body and is found in connective tissue. It’s also what makes skin plump, smooth and so elastic or quick to bounce back. Collagen supports the production of elastin, responsible for maintaining skin shape and hyaluronic acid which cushions and hydrates the skin. As we age, our collagen production slows. It’s thought we lose 1% of collagen beginning at age 18 and declining at a steady pace from there.

Unlike other fillers that replace the voids left from wrinkles with another substance, Sculptra triggers your body into slowly replacing the lactic acid with its own collagen. The tissue volumizes the hollow parts of your face gradually, restoring a more youthful, full appearance. It is FDA approved and contains no animal by-products or human DNA.
