SUBMENTAL LIPOSUCTION

Are you bothered by excess fullness under the chin?

It is not unusual to accumulate or hang-on to fat under the chin and it can be particularly hard to get rid of.

Submental liposuction can be performed to address this area of concern. This procedure, alone, tends to be more appropriate for patients 40 years of age or younger, who still have enough elasticity of the skin to restore normal shape and contour once the fat is removed. Over this age, submental liposuction is usually performed in conjunction with a facelift/necklift.

Technique
Submental liposuction is performed through a small incision under the chin. It is not unusual to have some swelling and/or bruising in this area after the procedure.

Risks

  • Bleeding

  • Infection

  • Scarring

  • Hematoma (collection of fluid under the skin requiring drainage)

  • Temporary or permanent paresthesias (i.e. numbness, tingling, pins/needles, etc.)

  • Asymmetry
